SMDC lab has been founded in 2008 at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Udine.
Our research is focused on theoretical and practical aspects of mobile, pervasive, and ubiquitous computing. Research topics include mobile and distributed systems, context-aware computing, artificial intelligence, information retrieval.

Motivations

Due to the appearance and widespread diffusion of new mobile devices (mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, etc.), the traditional notion of computing is quickly fading away, giving birth to new paradigms, where concurrent entities, moving from one location to another, exchange data and cooperate towards a common goal.

We are searching for models, technologies, and architectures in order to suitably describe and guide the implementation of this new computing scenario.

The SMDC lab. is active in both research and technological transfer: we actively collaborated with several ICT companies providing research support, development, and consulting services for software applications on mobile devices.
